Our Priorities

Guided by our commitment to serving members, the Police Association of Ontario has set key priorities for the future.

Strategic Goals and Objectives

At the Police Association of Ontario, we maintain a robust and dynamic set of strategic priorities, designed to address the evolving needs of our members and the communities they serve. These priorities are regularly reviewed and refined to ensure that our advocacy, support and services are responsive to both current challenges and long-term goals. Our work is supported by the efforts of key standing committees, whose expertise and dedication ensure that we remain at the forefront of issues impacting police personnel across Ontario. Whether it’s advocating for legislative changes, advancing mental health initiatives, or enhancing labour relations, we are committed to delivering meaningful, positive outcomes for all our members.

Advocacy

We advocate tirelessly for positive outcomes that enhance the working conditions and safety of police personnel across Ontario. By working with all levels of government and key policymakers, we ensure that our members’ voices are heard and reflected in policies that matter most. Our advocacy efforts foster a safer and more supportive environment for those who serve and protect our communities.

Education and Training

We are committed to providing accessible, relevant and high-quality education and training to all member associations, regardless of size or location. We regularly review and enhance our workshops, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of our members. From leadership development to labour relations, we offer a wide range of educational opportunities that help our members stay informed, connected and equipped to handle the challenges they face in their roles.

Labour Relations & Support

We advocate for fair, competitive and responsible labour relations for both uniformed and civilian police personnel by offering up-to-date resources and training. While the PAO is not directly involved in the collective bargaining process, we are committed to supporting our member associations by providing labour updates, educational programs and recognition for exemplary work in labour relations. By engaging with key stakeholders and promoting consistency across Ontario, we ensure that associations are well-equipped to navigate complex workplace issues and represent their members effectively.

Mental Health and Wellness

The mental health and wellness of police personnel and those with whom they share their lives is one of our highest priorities. We collaborate with mental health service providers and key stakeholders to develop programs that promote positive mental health outcomes. Our goal is to ensure that police personnel and their families across Ontario have access to timely, confidential support services that understand the unique challenges they face.

OMERS Pension Sponsorship

As a proud sponsor of the OMERS pension plan, the Police Association of Ontario plays a key role in monitoring the health of the plan and its governance structure to ensure long-term pension sustainability and fairness for police personnel. As part of this responsibility, we appoint individuals to the Administration Corporation (AC) and Sponsors Corporation (SC) Boards. These appointees work to ensure that the interests of both uniform and civilian members are well-represented in OMERS' decision-making processes.

Organizational Excellence

We are committed to maintaining a strong governance structure and effective leadership, positioning ourselves to meet both short- and long-term challenges. Through clear governance, financial transparency and leadership succession planning, we strive to deliver the highest standards of service and support to our members. Our ongoing efforts ensure that we are not only responsive to current needs but also prepared for future demands.

"The Police Association of Ontario is committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of all our members. Whether through legislative reforms or providing support at a personal level, we are focused on creating a safer, more supportive environment for those who protect our communities every day."
