In January 2025, PC Callender saved my life.
I was in a deep personal crisis — overwhelmed, drinking to numb the pain, frightened, and completely alone. I was not in a safe state of mind and was struggling with suicidal thoughts. I genuinely believe that if things had continued the way they were, I might not be here today.
I approached a London police officer in that moment of desperation. That officer was PC Michael Callender. What followed may sound unusual — he arrested me — but that intervention changed everything. It was the turning point I desperately needed. His actions stopped me from making potentially irreversible decisions and forced me to confront what was happening in my life.
Sometimes being “saved” doesn’t look the way you expect. In my case, it looked like accountability, protection, and someone caring enough to step in when I couldn’t protect myself.
Since that day, I have become sober and begun rebuilding my life. I truly believe that PC Callender’s professionalism, patience, and humanity made that possible.
I have called to thank him personally, but I also believe he deserves formal recognition. To him, this may have been just another shift. To me, it was my life.
