Jason Herder is a second-generation police officer whose commitment to service was inspired by his father. From the beginning of his career, Jason has gone beyond traditional policing, driven by a deep passion to serve others with kindness, dignity, and genuine compassion. His dedication to helping those in need is both inspiring and heartfelt.

For more than a decade, Jason has been deeply involved in community leadership and volunteerism. He has supported the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Ontario for over 10 years, including seven years on the executive board, helping guide fundraising, outreach, and inclusion efforts. He also served five years on the Special Olympics Chatham-Kent Board of Directors, supporting programs and events for athletes with intellectual disabilities. In addition, Jason volunteered for 10 years with the Chatham Minor Baseball Association, including six years on its board, and has actively supported the Chatham-Kent Police Association’s charitable initiatives benefiting local sports organizations, food banks, and community programs.

Through his work with Special Olympics and the Torch Run, Jason helped raise more than $900,000 to support athletes and programs. He played a key role in bringing Special Olympics events back to Chatham-Kent in 2024 by helping host the Special Olympics Ontario School Championships — the first provincial-level games in the region in nearly 30 years. His leadership and dedication led to his selection as General Mission Staff with Team Ontario for the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer National Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Within the police service, Jason also led a major overhaul of the Auxiliary Program, doubling the number of auxiliary officers and increasing community service hours by 300%, significantly strengthening community engagement and public safety.

Jason’s contributions reflect an exceptional commitment to inclusion, youth development, and community partnership. His service is rooted in respect for his father’s legacy and a sincere love for his community. He gives selflessly, asks for nothing in return, and brings hope, joy, and compassion to everyone he serves. Jason Herder is a true community advocate and an outstanding example of what it means to lead with heart.
