Jacob Garcia - Peel Regional Police Service

Award:
Year:
Service:

I am pleased to nominate Constable Jacob Garcia for the Extra Mile Award. Constable Garcia began his policing career with Peel Regional Police in 2024 and was assigned to 12 Division C Platoon in August of that year. Since joining the service, he has consistently demonstrated exceptional operational performance while embodying the personal values and character traits that his colleagues describe as humble, courageous, and unwaveringly dedicated.

In November 2024, while off duty at a family member’s residence in Brampton, Constable Garcia heard what he believed to be multiple gunshots. Without hesitation, he left the safety of the residence and conducted a patrol of the neighbourhood to assess the situation. During this search, he located an individual who had sustained several gunshot wounds.

Despite having no medical equipment and no protective or use-of-force tools available, Constable Garcia immediately administered saving first aid. Using only his hands, he applied direct pressure to multiple entry wounds to slow the victim’s blood loss. Once the situation stabilized to the extent possible, he contacted police and paramedics, providing essential details that supported their rapid response.

Constable Garcia’s actions performed while off duty, without equipment, and at significant personal risk represent an extraordinary act of courage. His decisive and selfless response directly contributed to the preservation of life and reflects the highest standards of policing. His conduct during this incident exemplifies the character and professionalism of an exceptional officer.

Constable Garcia’s commitment to leadership and service extends well beyond his policing duties. He has been repeatedly recognized for his character, including receiving the Leadership Award at Carleton University for his contributions to the university’s lacrosse program. The university has since named the leadership award after him, which is given once a year to the athlete who shows the most leadership on the field.

He has represented Canada on four occasions, competing internationally with the All‑Canadian Lacrosse Team. He remains actively involved in the community, coaching minor league lacrosse in Brampton, where he mentors youth and instills the same strong values he demonstrates in his daily life. He has recently been named the General Manager for the Brampton Lacrosse Club.

Constable Garcia consistently goes above and beyond the expectations of a frontline officer. His extraordinary bravery, leadership, and ongoing commitment to youth development make him a truly deserving candidate for the Extra Mile Award.

I wholeheartedly believe that Constable Jacob Garcia represents the very best of Peel Regional Police and is an outstanding choice for this recognition.
