Constable Duncan Watson began his distinguished policing career in 1993 with the Toronto Police Service. A second-generation police officer, he proudly followed in the footsteps of his mother, Toronto Police Service Staff Inspector Marlene Watson. PC Watson joined Barrie Police Service in 2011, where he currently remains on active duty.

Over the past two years, I have had the opportunity to see firsthand the meaningful work that PC Watson has done within the Barrie Police Service’s Community Safety and Wellbeing Unit, and more specifically his work within the unhoused community. While working with vulnerable populations, he has displayed the utmost respect and compassion. PC Watson treats everyone with dignity in one of the most sensitive and politically scrutinized areas of policing. PC Watson actively engages with those who are often unable to advocate for themselves, encouraging them to utilize available resources. His genuine concern is evident in every interaction.

PC Watson has also demonstrated his proven ability to build strong relationships not only with community members and his peers but also outside agencies, including social service providers, outreach agencies and municipal stakeholders. PC Watson has helped solidify a coordinated interagency response that is made possible by his ability to form a cohesive team. PC Watson is heavily relied upon for his leadership and common-sense approach when faced with a challenging or complex situation. His ability to draw on his more than 33 years of policing experience and reach a fair resolution is key to this success.

Lives have changed for the better due to the persistence and unwavering commitment PC Watson has shown while working in this specific role. Thank you to PC Watson, the members of the Barrie Police Service and the Community Safety and Wellbeing Unit, for their commitment to the people of the City of Barrie.
