It is an honour to nominate Bob Baumgartner for the Community Role Model Award. A dedicated officer who wears his uniform and badge with pride, Bob is deeply committed to making our community and roads safer. His tireless efforts in impaired driving enforcement and community engagement make him a truly deserving candidate for this recognition.
Bob has long been passionate about preventing impaired driving, making it his personal mission to keep dangerous drivers off the road. As a Traffic Services officer, he was promoted to Acting Sergeant in 2023, leading our region’s Festive R.I.D.E. program. During this time, he forged a strong partnership with MADD Durham Region—a collaboration he has continued to nurture well beyond the holiday season. Even after the program concluded, Bob took the initiative to attend MADD Durham’s Board meetings on his own time, ensuring the partnership remained strong and impactful.
Bob’s dedication extends far beyond his professional duties. He frequently volunteers his free time to attend board and committee meetings, support fundraising efforts, and deliver presentations and speaking engagements throughout the community. His leadership helped connect MADD Durham with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), forming another meaningful partnership that strengthens the fight against impaired driving. Additionally, Bob is always available to fellow officers across the region, offering guidance on impaired driving cases.
Bob’s impact is especially evident in his outreach to young drivers. During prom and graduation season, he collaborates with MADD Durham to speak at local high schools, reminding students about the life-altering consequences of impaired driving and the importance of making responsible choices. Several times a year, he also joins MADD representatives in speaking to new police recruits. Not only does he provide support for the victim speakers, but he also shares a crucial message about the role of kindness and compassion in policing.
As the Director of Police and Community Relations on MADD Durham’s Board of Directors, Bob remains steadfast in his belief that strong partnerships lead to a greater community impact. He volunteers his time selflessly, balancing his shifts and family commitments to ensure he is always available to support those who need it.
Beyond his work with MADD, Bob is a visible and engaged presence in the community. He actively participates in religious celebrations, cultural festivals, and other community events, demonstrating his commitment to fostering trust between law enforcement and the public.
Bob’s unwavering dedication to public safety, community service, and impaired driving prevention has remained steadfast throughout his career. Despite professional advancements, he continues to be an active volunteer and board member with MADD Durham Region, going above and beyond to make a lasting difference in the community where he lives and serves.
For these reasons, I wholeheartedly nominate Bob Baumgartner for the Community Role Model Award. His leadership, compassion, and dedication exemplify what it means to be a true role model in law enforcement and beyond.
