Profiles in Service: The Heart of the Police Association of Ontario

April 2, 2026
Spotlight on the Ontario Provincial Police Association (OPPA)

We are proud to introduce the dedicated Associations that serve our 33,000 members across the province. Through our Profiles in Service initiative, members gain an inside look at the work our Associations do every day to support their best interests.

Each profile highlights key achievements, top priorities, ongoing challenges, and upcoming events. By sharing these stories, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the Associations' work and the lasting, positive impact on policing in Ontario.

We are now pleased to begin with our first Association spotlight: the Ontario Provincial Police Association (OPPA).

Can you share a highlight or achievement the association is proud of?

An achievement that we’re proud of is the wage increases secured for Civilian members and the incentives achieved for front-line Uniform members in our most recent collective agreements. These collective agreements were overwhelmingly ratified by our membership as 87.7% of Uniform members voted in favour, and 92.9% of Civilian members voted in favour.

Additionally, we continue to be proud of the OPPA’s Encompas Mental Health Wellness Program, which offers a comprehensive and accessible approach to mental healthcare, designed to provide Ontario Provincial Police Association (OPPA) members with timely, confidential, and effective mental health support and services, customized to meet their unique needs.

What do you think members value the most about being part of the Association?

We believe members value the support from OPPA Staff and the Board of Directors at our Head Office, our OPPA Branch Executive and Representatives in the field, and our Labour Relations team who specialize in resolving workplace issues in a timely manner. Members also benefit from the timely assistance provided by our Benefits, Legal, and Disability Services teams on matters such as workplace accommodations, LECA and CSPA matters, and assisting families with the deaths of retired or active members.

What's the most pressing challenge the Association is currently addressing?

The most pressing challenge that we are currently working on is member engagement. We’re in the process of finding a way to engage, and stay engaged, with members across different generations and throughout the large geographical area of Ontario. For example: branch meeting attendance, participation in Association roles, and connecting with members re: important Association information.

What are the Association's top priorities for the coming year?

Our two main priorities are to prepare for and begin the collective bargaining process as our agreements expire at the end of 2026, and to evolve in response to the changing needs of our membership by leveraging technology to improve service delivery, strengthen data-driven advocacy, and improve member education.

Are there any upcoming Association events or initiatives PAO members should know of?

Mark your calendars for our Annual Charity Golf Tournament scheduled for June 9, 2026, at Tangle Creek Golf Club (Barrie, ON).
