Celebrating Excellence in Policing:

Governor General Invests 69 Appointees into the Order of Merit of the Police Forces

On May 14, 2025, in Ottawa, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, honoured 69 individuals by investing them into the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at Rideau Hall. This prestigious recognition included 9 Officers (O.O.M.) and 60 Members (M.O.M.) for their outstanding contributions to public safety and community service.

Established in October 2000, the Order recognizes leadership and exceptional service within Canadian Police Services. Among those honoured was Constable Matt Jotham, M.O.M., from the Guelph Police Association, and PAO Board Member, Constable John Cerasuolo, M.O.M., President of the Ontario Provincial Police Association, and Sergeant Steven Schmelzle, M.O.M., of the Waterloo Regional Police Association (Retired). Andrea Lamothe, O.O.M., from the Ottawa Police Association, was also recognized for being elevated to Officer.

The ceremony celebrated these individuals' resilience and hard work to ensure that communities remain safe while upholding the ideals of justice.
