At approximately 1145 hours, June 22, 1978, Constable Begbie was riding his own motorcycle from the Force's firearms range at Glen Miller to Trenton police station. He had just completed firearms training and was returning to report off duty. His motorcycle left the road, struck a mail box and telephone pole. Constable Begbie suffered fatal injuries.
