March 30 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT
This information session is designed to provide members with a clear, practical understanding of what it means to serve on the PAO Board of Directors — both in theory and in day-to-day practice. Whether you are actively considering a nomination in the upcoming election cycle or are simply interested in learning more about how the Association is governed, this session will offer valuable insight into the role of the Board as the controlling body of the PAO.
Grounded in the Association’s by-laws, policies, and governance framework, the session will walk participants through the Board’s responsibilities, authority, and relationship with the President and staff under the PAO’s governance model. Particular attention will be given to the distinction between governance and operations, collective decision-making, fiduciary duties, and the expectations placed on individual directors.
The session will also provide an overview of the PAO nomination and election process, including key timelines, eligibility requirements, and what prospective candidates should expect if they choose to put their name forward. This is an opportunity to move beyond job titles and election mechanics and gain a realistic understanding of what Board service looks like — the responsibilities, the commitment, and the impact.
